You Can Live With a Little Bit of Clothes if You Have A Lot of This…

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

If I had only 5 outfits, you’d never know.

Why?

Because I have so many accessories I can change the entire look of a single outfit in the blink of an eye. I’m talking hats, sunglasses, bracelets, belts, earrings, and everything in between.

“Hello… my name is Alexis… I’m an unashamed accessory whore. Pummel me with your pity.”

My new found accessory lust is directed towards Maria Pozo, an Etsy-based designer.

I especially adore that ruffled lace cape. It’s very sexy… very womanly… definitely date-ready.

The Hat Makes The Girl

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Oh dammit, I can’t contain it. I’m a hat fiend.

And in the hat world there’s NOTHING foxier than letting your hat ride to the side. That’s the epitome of vintage chic.

So if you’re not doing it, then get your hands on a Dahlia Soleil chapeau, and make sure you tilt it. Hide your eye Ma! Sex appeal is much more than bootyliciousness.

Bohemian Chic - Fashionably Unique

Monday, December 24th, 2007

At the infamous H&M on Madison Avenue here in NYC, they’re selling these bohemian inspired tams (or beret’s, if you prefer) like crazy.

Problem is, you see a lot of girls wearing the same hats, in the same two colors - black and light gray. Yes, even New Yorker’s can get fashionably ho-hum.

(Furthermore, H&M outerwear accessories DO NOT withstand daily wear too well. A few good wears and they get ratty looking.)

Alas, that’s the beauty of handmade goods. They tend to last a lot longer, you get a far greater selection, and you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone else bopping around in your stuff.

Purple Sage carries a delicious selection of tams. If you’ve got long hair, short hair - or loc’s - these hats will definitely round out your winter wardrobe.

Oooh That’s Hot - and Handmade

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

I give all props to a Betty who can sew her own leather, and make it look good. (Because I can sew leather - but it ain’t wearable when I’m done with it!)

So when I saw The Brit Boutique, I knew she had to be on my blog hitlist.

That brown leather bag is smokin’. That’s IT bag quality. And at only $115, it’s a STEAL for a handmade leather bag of this quality.

And that tres 80’s, red leather obi leaves me speechless. It’s one of those retro, yet classic items you’ll be wearing for years. Especially if you’re one of those Gen X momma’s who got a little junk in the front - like me! If you can’t resize it, just hide it - with a hot, red obi.

All handmade sweetie! Good for the soul.

Cocktail Hat Debauchery

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Are these not the most spine tingling little chapeau’s you’ve ever seen? I want to stockpile like 20 of them. They’re from Etsy-based designer KissCurl.

They’re not for everyone though.

If while you’re looking at them you don’t get the overwhelming urge to smoke a cigarette from a gold tipped holder, and gyrate your butt really hard when you walk - (a la Jessica from Roger Rabbit) - you’re not ready for a KissCurl hat.

All the bad girls… line up and get yours. Behind me, of course.
