Somebody Call the Shopping Shaman to Save Me!

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I have this awful shopping curse.

Whenever I find a designer that I like, I choose the item that I like the best, then I look at the price tag. Without fail, the item that I like the best is ALWAYS the most expensive. Without fail.

That’s exactly what happened when I met jewelry designer Karen Curtis last December. She creates the most exquisite jewelry from Swarovski crystals. It not only looks good in the photo, it’s GORGEOUS in real life.

She also does colorful chandeliers created from vintage Swarovski crystals and beading. The chandelier that I wanted for my place was $7K. It wasn’t the biggest. But it was the priciest.

I need to be a millionaire to survive through this curse of overly expensive taste.

Jewelry With a Lot of “Om”

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I was a shopper, desperate for a unique Christmas gift.

They had a booth set up at Grand Central Station (in New York City) for the holidays.

When we met it was magical. Dare I say… love at first sight.

Satya produces a line of yoga inspired jewelry. Think Buddha and lotus pendants, natural bead work like amethyst and aquamarine, with solid gold and silver overtones. These are truly pieces to be passed along from generation to generation.

Perfect for remembering a peaceful state of mind or for your favorite yogaist.

Ommmm-joy.

A Rubber Dream

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

When I gazed upon the jewelry line at Nervous System my heart began to pitter-patter. Whatever IT is, they get IT. And I love the IT they’re oozing.

Here you’ll find complex designs, that aren’t overstated. And both the necklace and bracelet (which they’ve dubbed the Radiolaria line) are made from silicon rubber. They’re flexible and odorless.

If you’re one of those, “I’ve-got-it-all” type girls, this line will make you realize that maybe you don’t.

Best Friend Stocking Stuffers

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Fancy, gem studded baubles are nice. But let’s face it - it’s the simple stuff that gets worn everyday. And sadly, most women don’t splurge on a nice set of everyday jewelry.

Be a hero… get an important Christmas gift out of the way… AND put a smile on your favorite gal pal’s face… with a couple of June Bijou’s pieces.

These are everyday chic. Wearable with a tee and noticeable even with a sweater.

(BTW, if anyone wants to contribute to the Alexis Dawes Holiday Gift Box, I like the gold necklace!)

Eclectic Eccentricity Eclectricity

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Do you remember Schoolhouse Rock?

If you do, congratulations. You are officially in the “where’s-my-antiaging-serum” club.

Anyway, one of my favorite songs from Schoolhouse Rock was Electricity. And every time I see Eclectic Eccentricity, I start superimposing Eclectic Eccentricity over the Electricity song. I know some of you Generation X’ers are feeling my Saturday morning cartoon vibe.

I heart that Geisha girl necklace.

But the bird is super hot. Is he not screaming for a wifebeater t-shirt, a Charms blowpop and a red Camaro?
