Acrylic Ring Bling

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I adore acrylic jewelry. It’s fun. Often colorful. Like me - after a mango martini (or two or four).

Though I find that it’s hard to find a good piece of acrylic jewelry that (a) doesn’t look like it was made for a 15-year old, or (b) I’m going to see on ten other Betty’s.

Well today I was browsing through Frosting - one of my favorite online accessory stores - when I ran across Rings Eclectic.

These rings are filled with mmmm, mmmm, mmmm chunky goodness. They have an acrylic base, with vintage button-like design work. Very skinny jean/kimono top chic.

If I were Oprah Winfrey, I’d buy all of my readers a Rings Eclectic ring.

But since I’m not Oprah, you’ll just have to settle for the sub-$50 price tag on Frosting.

Tag - You’re It

I hate it when one of my favorite pieces of clothes becomes the “It” trend of the season.

You see I’ve been a faithful belted trench coat wearer for many years. I’ve got a yellow one, two in black, navy blue pin stripe, chocolate brown, off white… well let’s just say I have a bunch of them in varying lengths and colors.

The problem for me is that they’re everywhere this season! Among my friends I’m no longer the belle of the trench coat ball.

So what’s a girl to do? Accessorize of course.

These Multi Floral Brooches from Frecklewonder are on my hit list.

I’m loving the vintage fabric and the vinyl leaf mix. Cute, with a wee sprinkling of edge.

Sad part is I think there’s only one available of each. Do I blog about their beauty, and then snatch them up with ruthless abandon? Hmmm….

I’m Bringing Sexy (Keyhole) Back

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I swear I don’t go looking for tops with big, fluffy collars. They just find me. It’s the Law of (Big Collar) Attraction at work.

I couldn’t help myself with this one.

In addition to the collar on this top (which makes me weak in the knees), I love that surprise keyhole back.

It has that “business in the front, party in the back” appeal. A modest sexiness, for those days when you’re only feeling 20% sex-kittenish.

I’m also diggin’ that nautical-esque top with the v-back.

They’re both handmade and brought to you by Toronto-based indie designer (and obvious style genius) Andrea Winkler, who runs Pretty Raccoon.

Her tops are like champagne for the soul.

Cocktail Hat Debauchery

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Are these not the most spine tingling little chapeau’s you’ve ever seen? I want to stockpile like 20 of them. They’re from Etsy-based designer KissCurl.

They’re not for everyone though.

If while you’re looking at them you don’t get the overwhelming urge to smoke a cigarette from a gold tipped holder, and gyrate your butt really hard when you walk - (a la Jessica from Roger Rabbit) - you’re not ready for a KissCurl hat.

All the bad girls… line up and get yours. Behind me, of course.

Girls Wanting Leather Feathers Can Flock Together

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I was reading Parisian Vogue the other day. Well actually, I was more or less looking at the pictures, since my French is rather (ahem) mediocre at best.

And one of the coming soon trends they’re showcasing is fringey, western wear.

Okay so I’m one of those girls who wears cowboy boots regardless of the trend. But I’m not a fringe aficionado.

Fringe makes me feel like I’m wearing a tight white prom dress, while I’m on my period. I’m a nutcase all day imagining how I look in it.

I do have a more conservative replacement though.

These leather feather earrings by Aylin Gould who runs Fat Free Style are delicious.

They’re made from soft lambskin leather, so they’re delicate and flirty. And they come in a rainbow of colors, to the delight of my credit card company.
