Jewelry With a Lot of “Om”

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I was a shopper, desperate for a unique Christmas gift.

They had a booth set up at Grand Central Station (in New York City) for the holidays.

When we met it was magical. Dare I say… love at first sight.

Satya produces a line of yoga inspired jewelry. Think Buddha and lotus pendants, natural bead work like amethyst and aquamarine, with solid gold and silver overtones. These are truly pieces to be passed along from generation to generation.

Perfect for remembering a peaceful state of mind or for your favorite yogaist.

Ommmm-joy.

Chainmail Meets Around the Way Girl and Births a Jewelry Collection

Friday, January 18th, 2008

As you’ve noticed from previous posts, I’m hanging up my 1980’s gold fly girl earrings, and opting for a spring and summer filled with shoulder dusters (earrings that is).

So when I saw the Steel Couture line, I thought I’d died and gone to long earring heaven. Ladies… Steel Couture jewelry has a tough-girl edge that’s just plain sexy, sexy, sexy.

It’s the length. You can tilt your head to the side and allow the earring to gently caress your shoulder. You know the pose. Try it now while no one is looking.

When you’re out and you strike that same pose with your Steel Couture earrings on, you’ll be accused of being a flirt.

And let me tell you something… you’ll look damn good being one.

Messenger Bags That Truly Deliver a Message

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Beating the streets of NYC everyday with a 5-year old in tow has made me extremely messenger bag savvy.

Carrying one means I can fit a toy or two, a juice bottle, Palm Pilot, cell phone, a book, my notebook, a map and even a small bag from the grocery store. And alas, I can still move quickly with my filled messenger bag draped across my chest. (Trust me when I say it’s a thousand times harder to carry everything with a traditional shoulder tote.)

One of my favorite messenger bags comes from Jack&Marjorie.

Their bags are made from military surplus materials like wool blankets, parachutes, webbing, etc. They also add feminine elements like vintage lace, brocade and some darling button work.

Perfect for your city slicker, urban adventures.

You Can Live With a Little Bit of Clothes if You Have A Lot of This…

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

If I had only 5 outfits, you’d never know.

Why?

Because I have so many accessories I can change the entire look of a single outfit in the blink of an eye. I’m talking hats, sunglasses, bracelets, belts, earrings, and everything in between.

“Hello… my name is Alexis… I’m an unashamed accessory whore. Pummel me with your pity.”

My new found accessory lust is directed towards Maria Pozo, an Etsy-based designer.

I especially adore that ruffled lace cape. It’s very sexy… very womanly… definitely date-ready.

1-900-Call Your Fashion Psychic

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

I have a psychic prediction to make.

You’re a unique soul. You’re the type of girl who likes to look good - as long as it’s not LMS (local mall standard).

I feel like you’re looking for tops… yes, yes… something with unique design work. Oddly enough I’m seeing a red rooster. Do I hear you saying “bohemian chic?”

Hmmm… well if that’s right, I have the designer for you. It’s Supermaggie.

Maggie hand screen prints t-shirts, makes felted wool scarves, and basically stays super in Louisiana.

Her collection is quite fun and ‘artsy neighborhood-ish’.
